This is an open HEMA event featuring Longsword, Rapier and Sabre tournaments with varying rule sets.

Event is being held Fri Nov 11, Sat Nov 12 and Sun Nov 13 in Atlanta, GA. All are welcome to come, and fence.

Puck Curtis Friday Workshops

We are happy to announce that Puck Curtis shall be teaching at the Southeast Renaissance Fencing Open this year. He shall be doing separate lecture and workshops on the Friday, as well as a class and Coached Fencing sessions on the Saturday and Sunday. The Friday sessions are a separate cost to the event. While the class and Coached Fencing sessions on the Saturday and Sunday are included in the cost of the event.

To do the Friday Wokshops is an added $20 and they shall be held at Unit 2 Fitness. The Lecture at Emory is open to all to come for free.

The following Friday schedule is up for slight change:

Emory Lecture: 11 - 12:30

Destreza at Unit 2 Fitness: 3 - 5:30

Break: 5:30 - 7:30

More Destreza: 7:30 - 9:30

Puck's Bio is as follows:

Puck Curtis began studying historical fencing in 1992 and researching Spanish swordplay in 1994. He is the cofounder of the Destreza Translation and Research Project and maintains the Theory and Practice section for the website. He has been a member of the SCA's Order of the White Scarf since 2001. Currently living in Folsom, California, he has been the primary historical fencing instructor for the Davis Fencing Academy and currently teaches Destreza as a martial art for the Sacramento Sword School with a special focus on the work of Pacheco and Ettenhard. He tested and received his certification as a Master at Arms before a traditional board of fencing masters with the San Jose Fencing Master's program in 2008 which is a branch of the Italian school of fencing. His current project is uniting the rigorous training and pedagogy of the classical Italian school with the theory and practice of the canonical Pachequista form of Destreza to preserve the tradition and share it with today’s western martial arts community.

Along with the workshop class we are also holding two Coached sparring sessions. These sessions shall be overlooked by Puck Curtis, Kevin Murakoshi and Tony Barajas.

Kevin Murakoshi:

After a childhood of swinging sticks around pretending they were swords, a chance meeting introduced Kevin to HEMA. With interests spanning 16th century fencing through the (post) modern Olympic style, Kevin is equally at home fencing with a rapier as he is with an electric epee. His primary interests are Spanish and Italian rapier, late 19th century saber, and classical fencing.

Kevin is a co-founder of the Sacramento Sword School, a coach at the Davis Fencing Academy, and faculty at the Sonoma State Fencing Masters Program. He is a certified Master at Arms in Classical Fencing from the Sonoma State, and a holds Prevot d’Epee certificate from the USFCA. Kevin is an active instructor and fencer in the classical, modern and historical tournament scenes.

Tony Barajas:

In 1991 Tony began fencing with French Foil and Hungarian Saber. In 1995 he continued his training in classical Italian fencing (foil, Saber, and Epee) at the San Jose State Fencing Masters Program. In 2002 Tony added fencing with Rapier and Dagger, Side Sword, Heavy Saber and Longsword as well as foot combat in full armor. In addition to European historical fencing, he continues studying traditional martial arts including Aikido, Jujitsu, Kendo, Escrima and Iaido. Tony earned his Provost at Arms from the San Jose State Fencing Masters Program in 2007. In his teaching career, he was an instructor in several fencing and martial schools. In the last few years, he was the assistant coach at the San Mateo Community College classical fencing program under Maestro Paul Sherman. Tony is also a founding member of St. Michael's Salle D'Armes and the Guild's Fight Coordinator, responsible for the safety and efficacy of their combat activities. Currently, he is the HEMA Head Coach at The Fencing Center in San Jose CA.
