Changes at the Atlanta Freifechter

The Change

In the next few weeks there shall be some major changes for the Atlanta Freifechter. This change has been long in the making and shall be a way to make the club only better.

We shall be moving to our own dedicated location in the West Side of Atlanta. Specifically here:

1370 Hills Pl NW, Atlanta, GA 30318

Another big change is that we shall be changing the name of the group from the Atlanta Freifechter to Atlanta Historical Fencing Academy. This re-branding is simply a way to make it easier to understand what we do.

How does this effect you?

Well obviously we will no longer be at Unit 2 Fitness. So it shall be necessary for you to cancel your membership there, and re-up your membership at the new location of AHFA. Most of you are currently on Month-to-Month memberships and so that will not be too much of an issue for you. Those currently still in a term membership may have to pay a cancellation fee.

You shall need to fill in the form found here: http://www.unit2fitness.com/cancel-membership/

Just say in the form that you are leaving due to the HEMA program moving to a new location.

A member of Unit 2 Fitness will get back to you about anything else you may need to do. There should not be much though.

Then you will need to fill in the membership requirements for the new location. We shall do that once the location is fully up and running. It shall be an easy process to do so. Please bring a form that shows your previous membership at Unit 2 Fitness. I shall match whatever you were paying there. There will be some differences in memberships for any new members going forward, but you will all be grandfathered in at your current memberships.

If you wish to stay at Unit 2 Fitness please talk to someone at the Front Desk of Unit 2 Fitness and tell them that you would like to change your membership to another membership. They will be more than happy to help you with that process and should only take a few minutes to do so.

When are we actually moving?

Good question! We will for sure be out of Unit 2 Fitness before April 1st. Currently the new space is in the final stages of being prepared for classes. All going well it shall be ready by the end of this week. However, it may take into sometime next week. So at the latest we will likely still be at Unit 2 Fitness by Mar 20th. I hope though that this is not the case.

I am telling you about this now so that you can get your cancellations in and you have time to figure things out. The last thing Unit 2 Fitness and I wanted to do is spring this on you and say that we are leaving tomorrow and everything needed to be filled in yesterday.

Once I know for certain when we are leaving I shall let you know.

What new things do I need?

Nothing really. We will be on mats that will require shoes. So if you do not have shoes you can train in then you will require those. Here are some type recommendations:

  • Modern Fencing Shoes

  • Indoor Soccer Shoes

  • Volleyball Shoes

Parking?

There is plenty of parking at the new space. The space itself is at the back of the warehouse on the opposite side of the yellow painted section. You should see the signs for the salle. As the classes shall be in the evening all of the parking will be allocated to us. Please still be mindful and park well and keep tidy.

Schedule

This shall of course be changing also. I shall release this in a couple of days. Being at a dedicated space means that we can give our minority classes a full time slot as opposed to a bi-monthly slot. For certain though we will be doing the following:

  • Beginner/Youth classes - 5:30pm

  • Regular classes - 6:30pm

  • Open Mat (at least twice a week) or Limited time classes - 8pm

  • Saturday classes -

    • Youth - 10am

    • Beginner - 11am

    • Regular - 12pm

    • Open Mat - 1:30pm

Questions/Comments?

That is pretty much it for now. Please let me know if you have any questions, etc. I will answer them to the best of my ability.

I am excited about this change, and look forward to being able to grow the AHFA with you!
